AFSCME 3090 Holds Special Saturday Membership Meeting with Successful Turnout

About 60 AFSCME 3090 members attended a special Saturday membership meeting on Feb. 9 to get involved their union.

President Alice Goff credited AFSCME members for their role in passing Prop. S in the Feb. 5 election. As the city and state face massive budget shortfalls, the passage of Prop. S went a long way to preserve vital services and jobs for the city of Los Angeles.

Business Rep. Dolores Spears reminded members that if they're ever called into a disciplinary meeting, they should ask for a rep. She also reported that the Police Chief was going to meet with members of the city's Domestic Violence Task Force Committee to ensure that managers understood the domestic violence policy.

Many of AFSCME 3090's newest members turned out to the membership meeting - the Airport Guides who recently voted for union representation. Before they joined the union, many were intermittent employees who had worked at LAX, Ontario, Van Nuys airports without any rights as union members. Now, the intermittent employees can become half-time employees and can finally be eligible for benefits!
