Local 3090 Opens College Fund for Guadalupe Arevalos’ Children
We are pleased to inform you that on Feb. 17 we opened a
Coverdell Education Savings Account for Nathalie, Adelynn
and Steven Rodriguez, the children of Guadalupe Arevalos
Rodriguez. Guadalupe was a member who was tragically killed
on May 3, 2001, as she left the Central Library where she
worked.
Since August 2001, $8731.10 has been contributed from various
individuals and fundraisers. This allowed us to open accounts
for each child in the amount of $2910.33 with the Oppenheimer
Fund. These accounts are safe while interest-bearing so that
when the children reach college age, they will have some
financial assistance. We are also able to continue to add
to the accounts should there be contributions in the future.
We would like to thank all who contributed and extend a special
thank you to another member of the local, Eusebio Terronez
of Cultural Affairs. Over time, Mr. Terronez donated $800
of his money from sales of items with the City logo.
This is the best example of what we can do when we come
together. We know that you all continue to wish the best
for Nathalie, Adelynn and Steven and keep them in your prayers.
