New AFSCME 3090 Business Rep Offers Advice for Members
The best advice AFSCME 3090 Business Rep Christa Indriolo
has for members: “know your rights.” Indriolo,
who brings years of experience as a community organizer and
political coordinator for the AFL-CIO to her job with the
union, joined the 3090 family last spring. She represents
911 operators, clerical support staff in the City Attorney’s
office, library clerks and others.
When members know their rights, Indriolo says, “it’s
much easier for us to make sure their rights aren’t
being violated and that the contract is enforced.” Members
should never go into a meeting with management without a
union representative, she cautions. “Things change
when employers know the union is involved. We’re here
to keep them from taking advantage of the work force.”
Her goal on the job? “To try to resolve problems between
members and employers before a grievance is filed,” she
says.
