Get Involved, Fill Out Survey, Attend Key Hearing and Rallies This Week Feb. 22, 2010 - Local 3090, together with the Coalition of Unions, is taking a multi-pronged approach to fighting back against the massive number of layoffs proposed by the City Council and the Mayor. We are implementing legal strategies, launching an educational program to inform our friends and neighbors of the impact of these cuts, and calling all members to turn out for key public rallies. We have engaged our lawyers to ensure that our contact is not violated and that the City fully implements the millions of dollars of savings that you sacrificed in order to do our part. We are in a fight for our survival, but also for the kind of City and services that we deserve and need. We need you to give of your time and energy if we are to be successful. There is strength in numbers and we send a powerful message when you come out to march, rally or participate in any planned activities. You can spread the word on what these drastic cuts would mean, encourage your coworkers, family, friends and the community members we serve to join in the battle. Some immediate actions:#1 – Monday, Feb. 22, 6 pm – Budget and Finance Committee Special Community meetingHamilton High School Cafeteria Residents will have the opportunity to comment on items on the committee agenda as well as general budgetary and fiscal issues facing the City. If you live or work in the area please attend and make your voice heard. #2 - Wednesday, Feb. 24, 9 am – Log On and Complete the MAYOR’S SURVEYhttp://labudgetchallenge.lacity.org/budgetchallenge/sim/budget_master.html The Mayor is asking residents who don’t know anything about City services or how to city runs to weigh in on your salary, retirement and benefits packages! We are asking all our members as a group to log on and complete the Mayor’s survey. As difficult as it may be, please resist the urge to let your true feeling be known and focus on revenue generation ideas. The following list are key cost saving ideas our members have come up with in the past. Feel free to add your own to the survey.
Remember, a different pension system for new hires negatively impacts our current system and members. #3 – Wednesday, Feb. 24, 10 am – CITY COUNCIL MEETING – SHOW UP AND SPEAK OUT!!!!#4 – Thursday, Feb. 25, 5 pm – Candlelight Vigil at the Mayor’s Mansion (Paid for by the City!)605 S.
