What is the Difference Between Agency Shop Fees vs. Voluntary
Membership Dues?
Agency Shop Fees are automatically deducted because you are
a part of the bargaining unit and are eligible for all benefits
provided in the Union negotiated contract with the City. In
addition
to the health benefits and life insurance provided by the City,
the contract provides an eye-care program for you, your spouse,
and dependents, as well as life insurance coverage for you.
Voluntary Membership Dues begin when you fill out an "Authorization
for Payroll Deduction" card. You become a "member in
good standing" of the Union and enjoy benefits beyond those
provided by the contract. You have a voice in the decision-making
process of your Local. Those benefits are:
•
The right to vote on any business of the Local.
•
The right to have input and vote on the contract.
• The right to train and function as a Union Steward.
•
The right to participate in training classes, seminars, workshops,
conferences, or conventions.
You are also eligible to receive discount cards to various Southern
California attractions and to participate in programs sponsored
by the International Union in conjunction with the AFL-CIO. These
programs include scholarships, credit card, mortgage, personal
loan and many other discounted services.
How Much are My Dues?
The payment structure is 1% of your gross monthly salary and
this applies whether you are paying agency fees or have voluntarily
signed a membership card. Why settle for paying agency fees
and not enjoy the full benefits of being a member?
Your input and participation is important to a strong, effective
Local.
You are the Union!
